PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.
The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.
The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.
Yet, Marseille struck two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.
Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
