Micky van de Ven Double Halts The Toffees' Run at Brand New Stadium

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team into third place in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

After a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a major concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs box.

The Toffees: The team travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 20:00 GMT.
