A person who spiked candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
